Workshop: Creating a Dynamic Classroom Climate

Do you want to learn how to leverage class policies to enhance your rapport with your class? In this workshop, graduate instructors will consider a case study on how to improve student performance. They will also learn how to set the stage for successful management of a course, including the development of a teaching persona and creating class policies that work. Participants will also engage in discussion with fellow graduate instructors.

Open to all graduate students, this workshop is required for the SkillCraft Level 1 Essentials Credential.

Workshop: Grading and Feedback Strategies that Work for Your Workload

Do you want to grade efficiently? Do you want students to use your feedback to improve their performance on assignments? In this workshop, graduate instructors will consider a case study on how to adapt grading to changing circumstances. They will also learn how to use rubrics as well as how to avoid and respond to grade challenges from students. Participants will also engage in discussion with fellow graduate instructors.

Do you want to motivate students to participate during class time? In this workshop, graduate instructors will consider a case study on fears around mistakes when engaging students. Participants will also learn how to implement active learning strategies into lectures, labs and recitations as well as manage discussions in large and small classes and engage in discussion with fellow graduate instructors.

Bootcamp: Instructional Planning for Graduate Instructors Part 2

Are you a graduate instructor teaching for the first time? Would you like to learn how to plan your course to enhance student learning in a way that balances your workload? Join us for Instructional Planning Bootcamp for Graduate Instructors, where you will develop everything you need for a week of instruction or a series of trainings. In Part 2 of 2, you will create a work plan and contingency plan that anticipates common challenges for one week of instruction.

The bootcamp is made up of two 2-hour Zoom meetings and several hours of asynchronous work for a total of 10 hours of professional development. Upon completion, participants are eligible to earn the SkillCraft Level 2 Competencies credential. Completion of SkillCraft Level 1 workshops is not required. Those who have already earned the Level 1 Teaching Essentials Credential are eligible for the Pathway Credential with the completion of the bootcamp.

This workshop focuses on creating an engaging classroom environment and best practices around managing attendance, late work and AI policies. This workshop counts toward the SkillCraft Level 1 Essentials Credential and is open to all graduate students.
