Faculty Associate in STEM Education

The Stearns Center for Teaching & Learning is proud to offer a STEM Education faculty associate position. The dates for this position will run from February 10 – June 24, 2026, and the workload is estimated to be approximately 100 hours.

Applicants should answer the questions in the online application form and upload supporting documents as requested. At the conclusion of the fellowship appointment, the associate will be expected to submit a brief report that summarizes their activities, impact and any assessment work that they completed. 

Eligibility:

Faculty receiving CTL funds for extended projects during January-August 2026 are not eligible for this position, so if you have applied for other Stearns Center funding (and are awaiting a decision on your proposal), please note that in your cover letter. Additionally, the faculty associate must be employed during the spring 2026 semester (adjuncts must have a spring contract to apply).  

General Work Expectations:

  • Support STEM faculty through facilitation and development of STEM Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programming (this will include supporting the STEM Education Retreat in early June (date TBD with faculty fellow), and level 1 STEM workshops – see this page for current level 1 offerings
  • The faculty associate will work closely with the STEM Education specialist to develop online resources specific to STEM faculty  
  • Support assessment of STEM Education faculty development programs (with the option to submit findings for publication or presentation)  
  • Assist with additional Stearns Center initiatives as needed. When possible, the faculty associate will be expected to attend Stearns Center team meetings. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading faculty training in teaching and learning (examples could be evidenced by course coordination, mentoring TAs, leading a department workshop etc.),
  • evidence of personal professional development in teaching & learning/pedagogy (can include attending programming at GMU and/or beyond) & teaching innovation in your classroom.
  • The faculty associate should also have strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience with project management, and a record of excellent teaching.  

Compensation:

The faculty associate will be expected to contribute an average of 100 hours over the course of the contract with pay distributed semi-monthly during the dates of the position. The faculty associate will receive a $5000 stipend for their work. The position begins February 10, 2026 and ends June 24, 2026.
