SUMMARY:Introduction to AI Inspired Pedagogies
DESCRIPTION:Register here| Facilitator: Laina Lockett\nThis section is full; therefore\, registration is closed. We created an additional section in July due to high demand. \nBy now you’ve probably heard of ChatGPT or one of the other various new large language models (LLMs) that have taken the world by storm. But do you know how to deal with the ever-evolving artificial intelligence technology as it relates to your teaching? In this mini course you will be exposed to the basics of redesigning your course as it relates to learning outcomes and instructional activities. We will also explore how to get feedback from students regarding the changes that you make. \n*Adding to your calendar will not register you for the event; please register using the link above.

SUMMARY:Info Session: AI in Teaching & Learning Project
DESCRIPTION:Register here. | Facilitator: Breana Bayraktar\nDiscover the Next Phase of the AI in Teaching and Learning Project \nOver the past two years\, the AI in Teaching and Learning project has brought together faculty\, staff\, and students from across the state to explore how AI is reshaping higher education. Our first phase focused on research into faculty and student experiences with AI\, and our second phase developed evidence-based educational resources—covering student onboarding\, assignment design\, assessment\, accessibility\, OER\, and more—to help instructors integrate AI ethically and effectively. \nFor the next phase (AY 2025–2026) we are recruiting faculty\, staff\, and students to join existing project teams or propose new ones. Project leads will guide you through planning\, research design\, IRB processes\, and building cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations. \nJoin us for this informational session to learn how you can get involved\, share your ideas\, and help shape the future of AI in higher education.

SUMMARY:Reading as Active Learning in STEM Disciplines
DESCRIPTION:Register here| Facilitator: Laina Lockett\nHow many times have you asked your class a question only to realize that only a few (or maybe none) of your students have done the assigned reading? Working with students who are not prepared for class is a common frustration among STEM faculty especially since there is often a large amount of material to cover in any given course. In this workshop\, you will learn how to turn reading assignments into opportunities for active learning. We will discuss some of the research on how students learn from reading\, how to teach your students to get more out of reading\, as well as how to design more engaging reading prompts\, guides and classroom activities. The small changes discussed in this workshop can have large and long-lasting impacts for your students\, so be sure to join the session! \nThis workshop is part of the Level 1 Foundational Practices in STEM Education Cluster. Other workshops in this cluster include: \nSeptember 4 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am:  Fundamentals of Effective Teaching \nSeptember 18 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Motivating Students in STEM Courses \nOctober 2 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am: Reflective Assessments for STEM Faculty and Students \n*Adding to your calendar will not register you for the event; please register using the link above.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Feel Better\, Teach Better: Strategies for Supporting Faculty Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Register here | Facilitator: Rachel Yoho\nTeaching is difficult and often an isolating experience.  There are many mental health issues in academia\, particularly related to the situation and the work.  Yet\, only student mental health is well studied and discussed.  In this workshop\, we explore faculty mental health\, strategies for improving the environment\, and address barriers to addressing concerns.  Please note that this is not a self-help or “yoga your way out of stress” workshop and does have discussions of mental health issues and self-harm.  While university resources are shared\, this is an academic and professional development workshop\, not medical or mental health advice.  Join us to create community and talk about one of the most prevalent\, but under-discussed\, issues in academia! \n*Adding to your calendar will not register you for the event; please register using the link above.
