Students as Scholars

George Mason University’s Students as Scholars initiative fulfilled the Quality Enhancement Plan requirement of the university’s 2011 reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools – Commission on Colleges.

The mission of the Students as Scholars initiative is to foster a culture of student scholarship through increased participation in and celebration of scholarly activities. The initiative helps students to see their education as a process of scholarly inquiry, where scholarship is valued as a core practice of the George Mason University student experience. The three major goals of the initiative are to 1) enhance the awareness and visibility of scholarship at the university, 2) increase opportunities for scholarly inquiry, and 3) develop the infrastructure to support student scholarship.
